Quick Update on Final Project: Not Much Going On

I have yet to get in contact with a reporter from the school newspaper.

Nothing new has come with my final project for the semester.

I'll make strides at contacting him next week so we could get this project done.

There's really not much to blog about today.

Video Project is Done, Now One More Assignment is Left

The video project on the Culinary Arts is officially finished.

We finished the video on Friday.

For the most part, it came out great.

Because the tape was messed up, we could not have as good of a video as we wanted to.

In this video, we had the Chef Instructor talked throughout the entire video while showing the different parts of the the Kitchen.

The class would have liked to see the Chef so they would know who was talking. Also, they would have like to see a still camera in most of the scenes.

We now have one more assignment and we are done with Journalism 121.

We are to pair up with anyone on a student newspaper, used what we've learned, and make either a slideshow, video, or a podcast.

I will be working on the student-faculty debate, which will take place on May 11 at 7 p.m.

Video Project is in Progress/Might be One More Assignment After All

The video project is moving along pretty nicely.

I couldn't be there for the recording because I had to rush to class to take my biology exam, so the group did all of the work.

From what I've heard, the group recorded a good portion of the culinary arts cooking.

We're going to meet up tomorrow with the head chief and interview him and a student. After that, the recording part would be over.

The editing process would be worked on all of this week and next week.

Oh yeah, after this video assignment , we may have one more assignment for the semester.

Not quite sure what that assignment might be yet, but of course, I'll let everyone know when I find out.

New Video Project Could be the Last for the Semester

Our class is now on to a brand new assignment. This could possibly be the last assignment for the semester depending on the timing of each of the groups.

We are now doing a video project.

It's very simple, find a story, and make a video out of it.

This is more of a feature story, so there will be lots of narration.

We could not work with the same people that we worked with on the soundslide project.

It was a bit disappointing to hear that, but at the same time exciting for me because I do love working with new people.

Our group will be documenting the Culinary Arts department.

I'll let you know how things progress as the project goes on.

Soundslides are Somehow Finished

Needless to say, the soundslide are done.

The bad thing is that the final product did not come out the way I wanted.

Once the audio was done, we put the photos together.

When we found out that the photos would not fill up the time slot, we had to add more photos, and that's where everything went downhill.

We ended up redoing the photos in the soundslide and could not even fix the timing of the photos, nor put captions on.

The final product looks good, but could be better.

Pushing to Finish the Soundslides

Are group is looking to finish our soundslide projects tomorrow.

Our audio piece as of now is over five minutes longer.

We need to it down to one or two minutes.

I'm pretty sure we'll finish tomorrow before 3 p.m.

The photos are just about set.

Update on the Slideshow Project

As mentioned on the last blog, Thursdays class was canceled because the journalism department went to a journalism conference in Sacramento.

My group has made good progress.

Two of the members were editing the audio piece.

I edit the photos and placed them in the slideshow.

By Tuesday, our group should be finished before 3:00 p.m.

SoundSlide Project Revealed

Okay, now that everything is set, I can tell everyone what my group is doing are soundslide project on.

We are doing our project on a women who worked at a Senior home across the street from our school.

She is the activities director.

She helps keep the Seniors active and help coordinate events for them.

She has even build a close relationship with most, if not all, of the Seniors who are living there.

I'm excited to finish this project and can't wait to post it on a future blog.

We have the audio and the photos done.

In our next class, we will set up the slides and put in the edited audio.

By the next class period (which will be next Tuesday since this Thursdays class will be canceled do to a journalism conference that some of the students will attend), we will finish up the project.

Catching Up on What I've Been Up To

It's been a while since I've blogged. Here are a couple of updates since my last blog post.

My news audio has become a success.

I was able to get two sources and edit the audio within 2:30 before Spring Break.

The next project I am working on is a group project.

The class will be working on soundslide shows.

Each group will have people take photos, interview the source, edit the audio and put the photos and audio together.

The assignment is to find somebody who has an interesting career and do a feature story on them.

I don't want to say what my group is working on right now because I want to be able to be sure the project works out.

I'll let you know on the next blog all of the details.

Audio Project is Complete

I am happy to say that my audio project is complete and on time.

The review I did was for the Space Jam soundtrack.

The versions we did was one with music and one without music.

I'm overal happy with both of these audio projects.

The one thing I could have done better was the ending part of the music piece.

The last song didn't come together at all, however I add to end it in two minutes.

For the sake of time, I had to put the last song in while I was talking.

All of the other ones had my audio voice, then the music.

Once again, I can't post it on my blog.

My Journalism instructor could not find his flash drive.

I won't make any promises about posting my audio project on the blog.

If we end up finding it, I'll post it.

Are next assignment is a new audio project, only this time, we have to do a news story that is going around campus.

The hardest part about this next assignment is finding out what's going on around campus.

Update on the Audio Project

Not much to talk about with my audio project. Everything is moving along pretty well.

Last week I've just edited out the "uh's" and the stuttering out of my audio piece.

By the next class, I will add music to my audio piece.

I would like to get done with everything tomorrow, but my main goal is to finish by Thursday.

Audio Project in Progress

The audio project is going well so far.

I'm doing mine on the Space Jam soundtrack.

I wanted to do something that I really enjoyed listening to.

I thought my vocal range was good, but I might my voice might need to be a little higher though.

Right now, I'm cleaning up any of the "uh's" stuttering words that I've said on the audio.

On Thursday, I will be adding music to my audio piece.

I'm hoping the audio will be done by next Tuesday.

Audio Editing Project

Are next project is the audio project.

Are homework assignment is to write a review on a movie or a song to be prepared for the next class.

From there, we record ourselves and add sound to whatever music we have for that review.

I'm familiar with the Garage Band program that we will be using.

However, it has been a while since I've used it, so I will need to brush up on my skills tomorrow.

I'll let everyone know how the project came out on the next blog.

HTML's are No Joke

It's been a while since I've blogged, my apologies.

Lately, I haven't balanced my schedule the way I should have.

I still haven't been able to figure out how to post visual resumes in blogs.

However, we did move on to, in my opinion, the hardest assignment yet, basic HTML.

This time around, the class had a full lecture on basic HTML.

The class had to put together an interactive page.

We had to put five links to the front page make them clickable. Actually how you would when clicking on a link.

We had a choice to do whatever we wanted, but it was preferred that we keep it at Cerritos College.

Picking a subject was tough consider that I struggled with HTML's.

I went from Track and Field, to the campus radio station, and finally decided to do Cerritos College major.

This has to be the worst assignment I've ever done in any class in my life.

I've basically put together a bunch of links together.

I could go on and on about how bad it is, however, I will end by saying that I am not proud of my work that I've put in on this assignment.

I'm just glad we are moving on. The class is now getting into audio editing.

I'll explain that on the next blog.

Learning About Visual Resumes

Last Thursday we learned about Visual Resumes.

A Visual Resume is like a standard resume with more graphs, pie charts and statistics.

It has more features to use than just typing up a resume itself.

Click here to view my Visual Resume.

Are assignment for the class is to do further research on the advantages and disadvantages of Visual Resumes. Here is the overall information that I've found:

 Advantages:

  • Visual Resumes are creative
  • Visual Resumes help see everything clearer
  • It is structured in a set order
  • It helps to give a lot of information in a brief, simple way
Disadvantages:
  • Visual Resumes are not for every job. Some employers prefer to have a traditional resume
  • Some employers will say the opposite about the resume being easy to read and say they may have to look everywhere to find the main point
  • Creating a quality Visual Resume would cost money
  • There may be a higher chance of someone lying on a Visual Resume than a regular resume.
Click on the titles below to view the five websites that I've found research involving Visual Resumes:

Infograph is Done, and I'm All Caught Up with Work

The Infographs are done and I have officially caught up with all of my assignments up to this point.

The information that I gathered for my Infograph was statistics from the Fall 2011 and 2012 term.

I decided to do a compare and contrast between both of the Fall terms.

The information came from the Chancellor's Office website.

The enrollment in Fall 2011 in California Community Colleges statewide was over 1,000,000 students. In 2012, it dropped all the way to over 282,000 students.

I did a full breakdown by each student who enrolled from first-time students to returning students, as well as others.

It feels good to get caught up with all of the work I've done so far. I can't wait for class tomorrow.

The Infograph will be posted as soon as I find out how to post them.

Getting Caught Up with Infographs

In my last blog, I presented my completed cartoon.

That was basically all I did last Thursday.

Before then, the class was working on a new assignment called Infographs.

Infographs are graphs that share statistical information on a subject.

Infographs could be used to post on the Internet, newspapers, etc.

The assignment was to reach a topic (chosen by the professor) and find out statistics and other information and bring it to class.

From there, students went to piktochart.com and started playing with the tools that could be used for the website.

Since I was finishing my cartoon, I can't say how the website.

Click here to see what Infographs looks like.

My goal in the next class period is to get completely caught up, so I won't have anything else that will hold me back from my work.

Luckily for me, I don't have that far to go.

The Cartoons is Finished

My cartoon is officially done.

As promised in my last blog, I will now share the finished product.

I did mentioned that I had to change the story from "Journalism vs. Public Relations" to "Understanding Public Relations" because I had to change the script.

Click here to check out my cartoon that I created using Xtranormal, via Youtube.

My Cartoon Ends Up Being Incomplete

Monday the class finished up with their cartoons. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to finish my cartoon, so  there won't be any post in this blog as promised in the last blog.

Before we shared our cartoons, Professor Cameron went over the finished Storify projects.

For the most part, he thought that the projects were okay, but nowhere what it needed to be.

He stressed that we should be telling the story right away.

After that, we worked on our cartoons.

Most of the class finished their cartoons.

At 3:00 p.m., the finished projects were being judged by the class.

The Super Bowl pre-game trash talk won with seven votes.

Click here to check out the channel of the cartoons.

As far as my project goes, all I needed to is work on emotions and movements, then it will be ready.

I had to rewrite most of the script though.

I wanted to do a piece on the difference between Journalism and Public Relations.

Instead, I did so much of Public Relations in my script that it almost put aside the Journalism perspective.

Because of this, my new project is called "Understanding Public Relations."

This project will be down tomorrow, and I will share it.

The Cartoons have Started, and I missed my First Quiz :(

Last Thursday the class got started with are cartoons.

We were to write down a scripted about something we were most passionate about.

For me, finding something passionate was hard to find, so after doing a lot of brainstorming, I decided to go with Journalism vs. Public Relations.

The story is two guys who just graduated from Community College and are transferring to their universities will be getting into their own majors.

One will be a Journalist major and the other will be a Public Relations major.

The person who is a Journalist major is shocked to hear that his friend decides to be a Public Relations major.

So the two compare the differences on both of the majors and career choices.

The video will be up between tomorrow and Wednesday.

The script was supposed to be done before class so everyone would get started with their piece.

I had a lot of fun designing the background and characters.

The project is almost done, and I can't wait to show the class.

On the downside, I had a lot to do over the weekend and therefore, missed my first online quiz.

I take full blame for it, I missed manage my time.

Next time, I will be prepared to take my quiz.

Out With Storify, In With Cartoons

Yesterday, our group wrapped up our Storify project.

We came together and shared our individual projects. After that, we created a group Storify on the L.A. Youth newspaper closing.

I thought the project went well. Everything just seemed to click.

We finished the project two hours before class was over.

Click here to check out the groups Storify.

Once we share our projects tomorrow, we will move one from Storify and will be creating cartoons.

We won't work on the design aspect, however, we will be placing characters at a certain place and have them talk about anything we want them to talk about.

Our first assignment is to write a script that should be timed between 90 to 120 seconds.

We will official start our cartoons tomorrow.

Click here to check out what the class will be doing tomorrow.

Storify, A Simpler Way to Tell Stories

Last Thursday in class, we were introduced to storify.com

Storify.com is website used to tell a story without too much writing involved.

This website gives users multiple options to explain what is going on.

Everything from Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and other resources could be used to tell a story.

Are class went into groups of four. We did our own individual stories and will share our stories with each other tomorrow.

After that, we will pick the best piece and put together a group story.

The individual and group stories will be shared with the entire class tomorrow.

Our group did our piece on the L.A. Youth closing its program.

L.A. Youth is a newspaper made for teenagers and written and published by teenagers.

Here is the link to my storify piece:

Learning About our Blogs and Twitter

Toady we learned a more about our blog accounts.

We've learned how to add more tabs to our blogs.

We also learned how a little big about how to manage html.

I'll have to admit, it was hard to change around html.

After that, we went into the importance of having a twitter account.

Twitter is a must in journalism.

Twitter allows journalist and news outlets to report the news in 140 characters.

The students in class created accounts for today and will be using their accounts within the next eight weeks of class to post news around Cerritos College.

Although I already have an account, I've decided to create a new one for the class because I thought it would conflict my personal account.

Either way, I can't wait to use this account, as well as continuing to see what this class has to offer.

Journalism 121 Has Started

The Journalism 121 course has kicked off and I am super excited to get the class started.

The first day was the class introduction in which the students find out what we're going to do for the semester.

After our class introduction, each person introduced themselves and explained why they took the class.

The class introductions are where we've found out about all of the exciting assignments we will be doing such as blogging, videos, animations, etc. I really enjoyed that Three Little Pigs video in class.

I thought it was a preview of a movie. The on the second day of class, we got into blogging.

The class watched a video called Blogs in Plain English. After that, the class created their own blog sites.

The first week of class was excellent, and I cannot wait to see how the rest of the semester will turn out.
